Crystal polystyrene (GPPS)
We distribute crystal or general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS) for injection moulding, sheet extrusion and thermoforming, from Murcia to the whole of Spain.
Crystal or general-purpose polystyrene (GPPS) is a fully transparent, rigid and glossy plastic, easy to injection mould and extrude.
It is brittle on impact, so it is often blended with high-impact polystyrene (HIPS).
Types
- Injection moulding
- Disposable cutlery and cups, clear boxes, housewares, hangers and office supplies.
- Extrusion and thermoforming
- Sheet for thermoformed packaging and boards, on its own or coextruded with HIPS.
How to choose the grade
Look at the flow (MFR or MVR at 200 °C / 5 kg): higher flow for thin parts and fast injection moulding; lower flow for sheet and parts that need more strength. The Vicat point indicates the temperature up to which the part will hold.
Available grades
| Product | Type | Melt flow / viscosity | Process | Main use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Estyrenics GPPS 123 | General purpose polystyrene (GPPS) | 8-12 cm³/10 min | General purpose polystyrene with MVR 8-12 cm³/10 min and Vicat min. 85 °C | |
| Estyrenics GPPS 251 | General purpose polystyrene (GPPS) | 2-3.5 cm³/10 min | General purpose polystyrene with MVR 2-3.5 cm³/10 min and Vicat min. 99 °C |
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between GPPS and HIPS?
GPPS is transparent and rigid but brittle; HIPS contains rubber, is opaque and withstands impacts much better. They are blended to balance transparency and strength.
